Why Ventilation Matters
A poorly ventilated attic gets extremely hot in summer — 140°F or more. That heat bakes shingles from underneath, cutting their lifespan significantly. In winter, poor ventilation causes moisture buildup and ice dams.
What Good Ventilation Looks Like
Balanced intake and exhaust: soffit vents (intake, low) and ridge vents (exhaust, high). Air flows in low, picks up heat and moisture, and exits at the peak. Many older Charles County homes have inadequate intake — we see it constantly.
